Traffic-weighted error-rate windows, a declared request-based SLO, and consecutive evaluations. Missing samples are distinct from zero traffic. Ignore omits them; unknown resets a pending alert; breaching treats the whole window as breaching when any sample is missing. Latency is a displayed per-bucket mean, not a percentile distribution. No telemetry is sent to a provider. AWS: CloudWatch metric / alarm concepts. GCP: Cloud Monitoring SLO / alert concepts. No metrics leave the browser/server model. A request-based SLO is not an availability SLA; real alerts need multi-window design, ownership, retention and validated telemetry quality. No cloud resources are created.

CloudWatch metric / alarm concepts: Compute error fractions from traffic totals; do not average per-bucket percentages.
The bounded simulator rescans a window; a streaming implementation can maintain running totals. Request-based SLO math does not replace multi-window production alert design.
Window samples inspected, seed 42. Plotted sample sizes respect each lesson’s explicit input limits.
Keyboard: Space play/pause · ←/→ step · R restart · 1–5 speed. Reduced motion disables transitions.
A low-traffic bucket with one error should not count like a busy bucket with none.
Load the average scenario and step through the initial state before playing. Read the variables and final result, then switch to the worst scenario. Pause before a decision and predict which explicit condition determines the next action.
Rolling windows sum requests and errors before division. Burn rate is observed error fraction divided by the declared allowed fraction. Consecutive breaching evaluations fire an alert. Missing data is explicitly unknown, ignored or breaching; zero traffic has no defined error fraction. Latency is displayed as bucket means, not fabricated percentiles.
AWS: CloudWatch metric / alarm concepts. Google Cloud: Cloud Monitoring SLO / alert concepts. Select the provider mapping before loading input. Product names identify concepts; they do not create resources, imply identical APIs or promise equivalent service guarantees.
Compare 1/1 errors with 0/999 errors using a two-bucket window. Then replace samples with missing values and test each missing-data policy and consecutive threshold. In Try mode, choose the next modeled decision and use the hint to inspect its preconditions. Explain a changed result using the actual input rather than the provider logo.
The player displays the model's operation metric and declared bounds. Compare best, average and worst presets before changing only one parameter. Simulation operation counts are different from provider quotas, cloud bills, throughput benchmarks and wall-clock service latency.
References implement one request-weighted window; the player maintains consecutive alert state and whole-observation budget consumption. All four languages show local reference logic rather than provider SDK calls. Validate inputs and account for the unmodeled production concerns before adapting a reference.
Use this scenario when reviewing CloudWatch metric / alarm concepts or Cloud Monitoring SLO / alert concepts: identify the workload assumption, failure boundary and evidence needed for the selected design. Record one alternative and the constraint it changes.
No metrics leave the browser/server model. A request-based SLO is not an availability SLA; real alerts need multi-window design, ownership, retention and validated telemetry quality.
Answer the mechanism question, distinguish the exercise from a real cloud operation, and justify a controlled failure experiment. Re-run the scenario if your prediction disagrees with the traced state.
